Friends at homb one and awl it is with much plasure that I wright to you to lett you no that I am well I reseved a letter from you to day and was glad to hear from homb once more I am yet in ny and dont no when I shall leav I haint got much to wair on my feet for my shoes hav plaid out and my boots to but never mind it will be awl right some timb when I git to my regament I will tell you a bout my dis charg meby I shall git homb this winter when my regament gits to winter quarters then is the timb to git it I hav a good view of awl the ships that comb in to Newyork harbor from aw the forts it is a very pretty place hear to see awl that is going on in this place you said that Jim had got back again / he maid a rather a short trip did he not tell him that I dont no what he would do if he was in my place when he was sick he would hav to lay on the ground and take it as it caim did he not like Northampton tell him that I thinck it is a very pretty place could he not hav the old woman or not tell him that if he aint got more spunck than that he wont do very well in the army tell him that I say he aint very spuncky in my eye you wanted to no how my hand got a long it is doing very well it has got most well but I cant use my fingers any and dont thinck that I ever shall and when I git to my regament then I am a going to aply for to be examined and if I am not fit for duty then I am a going to aply for my discharg
when I git to my regament I will wright and lett you no how lucky I am I may be very lucky and git my dis charg soon I may git paid off soon and if I do I shall send it homb but not till I git to my company if I haint got any company it will be when I git to head coaters there is a fellow hear that was to my regament on the last of July and he said that there was only 10 in my regament and these belonged to Co I awl the rest was taken prisners at peaters burgh he said that they had a hard fight there and that I was lucky to not be there and I thinck the saim about money I dont want you to send me any for I may not stop hear long a nough for / to git it I can not wright any more now so good by I hav roat to mary and I se this week and hav not got any answer yet I hav bin hear a week ago dabefoar yestday this was the first letter that I hav got sinc I caim hear and I hav roat 8 or 9 and dont no what the mater of it so good by this from
