Friends at homb I reseved your kind letter to day was very glad for I hav benn loocking for one for 2 or 3 days that box of things you nead not send if you hav not for I hav drawd clothing send me a sheet of paper in your letters take a small envelope and put the sheet of paper in it and a stamp on it so I can wright for it is very hard to git paper hear and stamps it is imposibal to git them you wanted to no what I am doing well I am laying in my tent most of the timb my hand has got most well but I hav no use of it and never shall the lieutenant says that he shall keep me till we go to winter quaters and the I shall git dis charged if my hand is of no use to me and he said / it never would be any good to me if there is a fight I hav to go to the rear with the surgon the pickitts firing to each other very hard we ar in a fort and we can stand on the top of it and see the rebs a bout a mild from us yestday I went down on our lines a bout a mild and was a mild from the works they was shelling the rebs out of their pits they would jump and run like fun I went in one of our forts and you could through a ston in to the rebs fort we could stand and tawlk through the port hols to them we ar agoing to git paid this week and I shall send home the money for you to use 
 
            Well Jane I was very glad to hear from you and to hear that you was to our hous for mother dont wory so much when there is some one there you said that Nell Gaskill was sick that is most to bad but I cant help her any but I hop that she will git better if if you was out hear whear you could see some of them 200 lbs shells over your head it would make you jump some last night they throad them over our head about 60 feet in the air and they loock pretty it is a bout timb for the mail to go so I must close my helth is tip top good next timb I will wright more so no more this timb this from a friend W W Harvey /
