Camp Near Peatersburg

Dear Mother sisters and awl I thought that I would wright a few lines in answer to your last letter that I got last night I reseved your letter with two dollars in it and it caim pretty handy to me for I toock it and got me some thanks given I will tell you what I had I had 1½ of a pound of a tirkey and 3 do nuts 2 pickles 1 slise of cak 4 aples peas of cheas 2 cookes and I bought 1 pound of potatoes and a pound of sacuge and a good dinner it did not tast like home to me after awl for I was in the army but soon I will git out of it for the lieutenant says that he shall hav me discharged in a week or 2 and lett / go home he says it is a shame to keep me in the army and I thinck so to for I am of no use to them and I am a coming home this winter if posibal you must not feal bad about me for I dont suffer any and that is a grait thing out hear did you hav a good thanks givin up there it is sunday and I can hear the bells a ringing in peatersburg for meating and the rebs ar a shelling the next fort abov us but do no harm and let them worck that is awl for this timb this from your son /
