it is with much plasure that I wright to you my health is the best it ever was I hav a very good timb I go to the city when I want to I was down to the presdants funeral it was the graitest thing I ever see in my life the cofin cost $1500 hundred dollars it was awl coverd with silver there was 1 regament of Cavelry and 2 regaments of infantry 6 peases of arilry 1 regt of regulars one regt of mariens and a bout 1000 sitizens escorted him to the funeral he was putt into the Capitol there was a bout one hundrad and fifty thousand pursons on the streets of washington that day it was the most splendad sight I ever see in my life you said that you thought that the war would not end so soon as if the presdant had not / been shot but that will not make much diferants for we hav got old lea and awl of his army and Johnson will not hold out long I dont cair about my discharg for I am well enough off whair I am If I could gitt me a furlough I would not take my discharg if I wanted my discharg I coald gitt itt by trying some for it I want you to send my Banjo very soon for I am lonsome with out it Benn you pay the express and gitt a reseet of it and send it in a letter to me the saim day that you send the Banjo so I will not hav any truble a gitting it now dont delay any timb on sending it for I thinck of itt evry day I wish you would send me a knife if you a extra one to spair but dont go and by one for me for I cann gitt a long with out one send me a extra sett / sett of Banjo strings for they will cost me $2.00 out hear I hav not benn paid for a long timb most 9 months sinc I sent homb that $100.00 dollars butt will gitt payd soon I thinck as soon as next month I am a doing gard duty on 14 street down in the city a bout 1½ mild from the barocks I think that it is better for me to stopp in the army untill my timb is out dont you for if I should comb homb I should want to lay a round a month or 2 and that would not pay I am a going to gitt the use of my hole hand but one fingar and that makes me feal hapy for when I gitt homb I shall hav good use of it as ever and then I shall be able to worck at most any thing and that / what I want I gott your kind letter and the money and was very gladd I will try and pay you for awl these things if I cann when I gitt homb I did not gitt only 1 box when I was to the frunt that was the one that had the books inn it the other one went up so you will hav to wait for the little pail untill I gitt homb and then I will buy one I cant thinck of any more this timb so good by Direct my banjo to
