Lewis V. Tucker to Deborah O. Tucker, 21 April 1865
Marine U.S.A. Gen Hospital New Orleans La April 21st 1865

Dear Wife
I will commence another short letter this morning and try & get it finished so that I can mail it to night so that it will start for the north to morrow morning

I have not much to write more than to say that I am still well but have to work pretty hard and get pretty tired but as long as I am well I do not care if I do have to work hard.

I recd your letter that was mailed the sixth on the 17th the 11th day after it was mailed. I was glad to hear that you had got the letter that had the money in even though it was but a little I wish that it was 200 dollars insted of only 2 dollars But just as soon as I can get any more I will send it to you by the first mail it is very singular that there is no money sent here to pay the Army with

I am glad that Mr Reynolds is not going away until fall for if he did I do not know how you would get along unless that I get paid soon. The paper that you spoke of as being sent to Mr Deborah Tucker if it is so it was a misstake for I did not intend to write it so. I sent them because you said that you did not get any papers and thought that they would be better than none. I have sent you several of them in my last letter I sent you a photograph I hope that you will get that all safe & right

Have you got the box yet that I sent you by Zumstein as far as New York. I hope that he sent it right on from New York if he did you must have it by this time. there was between 20 & 80 yards of muslin in it that I want you to have besides a lot of other things that you can use. I wrote to Mr Reynolds & Mr Heath a few days since. I told Mr Reynolds of my sending the box to him for you

I got another letter from Jo Rush a few days ago he said the company was all well

Frank Pa is glad that you have got well again and hopes that you will not be sick any more I am coming home to stay with you before long be a good boy & help Ma all that you can I sent you a new cap in the box that I sent home and will send you something more when I send another

Lilly Pa would like have to come home & kiss you & take care of while you were sick so that you could have been more comfortable but as soon as I get paid Pa will send you some money and before long will come & stay with you I shall send you something nice when I send another box do not feel bad because I did not send you anything this time I did not have time to get anything to send Kiss Ma for me I sent you a book a week or two ago one that Mr White sent me

There is great excitement here now about the death of the President almost a riot in the city three men & one woman was killed by the soldiers here                 L. V. Tucker
