Wilson McKee was born on January 30, 1831, in Ireland to William McKee and Mary Wilson. He eventually immigrated to America and settled in Steubenville, Ohio. He married Margaret McCune on April 9, 1857, and they had at least nine children: William, born around 1858; James, born around 1860; Clara, born around 1863; Emmett, born around 1866; John, born around 1869; Jessie, born around 1872; Gertrude, born around 1875; Mary, born around 1878; and Ada, born around 1880.
He worked as a farmer and butcher, and by 1860, he owned $7,000 of real estate. A decade later, he owned $2,000 of real estate. He supported the Democratic Party, and in 1898, he received an appointment as sergeant-at-arms of the Democratic State Convention. By the late 1800s, he had become a prominent member of Steubenville society, and he served as vice president of the local Building and Loan Association. He died in Steubenville on January 22, 1899.
