Harriet E. Grannis was born around 1851 in Claremont, New Hampshire, to Laurens Grannis and Martha Cole. Her father was a farmer who owned $3,000 of real estate and $1,000 of personal property by 1860. Harriet grew up and attended school in Claremont. The family moved to Guildhall, Vermont, sometime in the 1860s, and by 1870, Harriet was working as a teacher. She lived in her parents’ household until at least 1880. She married John G. Morrow around 1881, and they had at least two children: Henry, born around 1884; and Helen, born around 1890. By 1900, the family was living in Lancaster, New Hampshire. She died of heart disease and Bright’s disease in Claremont on March 23, 1909.
