Margaret Grannis
Margaret Grannis was born around 1853 in Claremont, New Hampshire, to Laurens Grannis and Martha Cole. Her father was a farmer who owned $3,000 of real estate and $1,000 of personal property by 1860. Margaret grew up and attended school in Claremont. The family moved to Guildhall, Vermont, sometime in the 1860s, and by 1870, Margaret was working as a teacher. She lived in her parents’ household until at least 1880. She married James Morse in Lancaster, New Hampshire, on February 16, 1887. They had two children: Mildred, born around 1888; and Laurens, born around 1891. By 1900, the family was living in Guildhall, Vermont. She remained in Guildhall for the rest of her life, and she died there of “Senility” on February 16, 1947.
