                                                                                                Fairfax Stasion Feb 11th 1863
 
Dear Sisters I hear that you are impatience becaus I dont answer your letter but I will now try and write a few words and let you know that I have not forgoten you I am well and enjoying myself hughly have enough to eat and pitch pine wood to burn and dont have to work very hard have a good tent a house does very well to live in up in Vt but a tent is better here becaus when I move I have it caried then we have shenter tents that we cary ourselfs when on a march and pitch them whare night overtaks us I wish you Could see what a fine City I live in their is about 150 little log houses with tents ontop of them / and from 3 to 5 men in each and each man has a tin plate and cup a knife and fork and spoon for a bed one wolen blanket and one ruber bunks made of poles with cedar boughs to lay on an we lay warm and dry it stormes a little this after noon it not rain nor snow but half way betwene who keep the school this winter and have you teacher a good one that learns you eny how is Charley Benton does he go to school tell him that I have not forgoten him yet you must learn to sing this song you can cut it of from this letter if you want to
