Nathan F. Moses to Edwin Metcalf, 5 February 1863
Camp Metcalf Va
Feb 5th 1863

My Dear Colonel,
Your kind favor bearing date of Jany 12th came duly to hand and it gave me great pleasure to hear from you.

Col "Rogers" arrived here the next day after I received your letter and I can assure you we were all very glad to see him and to know that [faded] had a Col. He found us [faded] doing very dirty duty [faded] camp of sick soldiers [faded] and cowards I am sorry to say I doubt there are many of the latter class [faded] all getting attached to him [faded] the Gov makes him [faded] kicked [faded] I like [faded] very sorry to have [faded] it is just the [faded] think he is all you say [faded]

I have done all in my power to make his stay a pleasant one and I think he has in the short time that he has been here got very much attached to the 11th. He is a good fellow and I wish him great success. if he had stayed with us he would undoubtedly have gotten us out of this place but now I am afraid we are stuck, [faded] Col Pitman I think was very much disappointed that he was not appointed [faded] but it was a very fortunate thing for him that he was not. I suppose he expects [faded] but I am sure he will not [faded] the Regiment [faded] day. In your letter you say [faded] yourself nor [faded] Rogers I should  like very much to hear [faded] long. [faded]
