My one Dear Wife as we have arived hear saf i will right you a few lines to let you know that i am well at presant & hope that you are the same i resieved your kind & most welcum letter the 29 & was very glad to hear from you i am glad you have moved down home i hope that you wont hafto move a gain until i get home i hope that my friend will think that i am a grate wais from home if i have got eny & i hope that i have got a nuf to use you well eny way i supose that you had a hard job to move you must take good cair of the things for i hope that i shal be home be for long i wish that the war was over for i have got tiard of it i hird / the news was in Palmyra that we was all lost but that aint so we ar all a live & well we a rived safe in neworleans the 29 we camp 7 miles abuv neworleans it is a very plesant place but the city looks dul evry store shut up it looks oful nothing but war Dear wife you wanted me to ask the captain if you codant cum whair i was Dear honey god knows that i want to see you but that is out of the question it is no place hear for a woman their is 6000 hear in camp but no woman hear it not a fit place for them their will be 65 000 hear in corse of a month then i supose we will march for sum place & have a round with the rebbles i have come so far & i want a chance to send won of unkel sams blew pills after won of them if they dont get the start of me i shal try & not let them 
 
the river is full of gun boats hear to look a long from New york up as far as hear you wood think that their want eny nation eny buisnes with Amurica the coast is strong fortifide all a long Dear wife i havent hird from Maria since i left Auburn i shode like to hear from hur very well Dear wife i hope that you wont ventur to go down their you wait until i get home & then we will both go i rather you wod stay at home it will make me feel more contentid to have you at home i thot that the folks wood get tiard of duning you after a while i guess that they can wait until i get home if i dont get home they can do with out it i havent got eny more pay yet i hope i shal get sum soon for i want sum just now i shant ceep but a little with me i shal send home all i / can i ante got a red sent now & i havent had since i left new york i saved 3 postage stamps i cant right a gain until you send me sum stamps send me 50 cts worth if you will they are scarce hear i shal right as often as i can we dont have a very good chance to right i shal right wonce a weak when i get them stamps Dear wife i wish that i was their to right to Maria for you but i aint Dear wife i hope that i soon will be i cant think of eny more at presant when you right send me all the news at home i wish you a happy new year pick a bone for me the whether wether is warm & plesant hear plenty of ornges hear treas hang full of them give my love to al of my friends give my love to John & tel him i will right to him soon tel Father to take good cair of my tools what their is of them if i live to get home i will have me a new cit give my love to James & mary give my love to Alfird & Margrit Brown my love to all Dear wif ceep a good shair for your dear self good by for this time from your husband Wm H Hibbard give my love to Charley & tel him to be a good boy Dear honey right soon it dos me good to read your letters
