Dear wife as i feel lonsum & thinking of you i thot i wod drop you a few lines to let you know that i am well at presant & hope that those few lines will find you the same we stil stay in the old camp yet camp stevans is the name of it it is very plesant hear the wether is nice & warm we had a shour this morning it raind just a nuf to wet my gun so that i had to spend a cupel of our owers to clean it i was on gard all night i never felt so slepy in my life it was just as much as i cod do to ceep my eyes open it wont do for a gard to be catched sleep on his post hear it was is difrant hear than it was in auburn they are very strict with the privates hear Dear honey i rote a letter to mother the 23 i told Mother to let you se it when she red it we have had a kind of a solgers holow day we moved our tents in a new spot a bout 6 rods from the old spot the solgers will do most eny thing to get red of driling
we exspect sum new clothes to morrow the boys are geting pirty ragid i have spoke for a new pair of pants & shoes & won pair of drawers & that aint all the captain ces that we shal get our pay the 28th i think that it is a bout time we had sum pay. i havent had a sent since i left new york i am out of tobacko i smoked the last that i brot from home yesterday it is pirty dear hear & not very good at that i wish i cod get a long with out it but i am lost without it i hope that i will be whare it is cheaper soon but it looks pirty dark now their aint much talk of peace yet at least i dont hear much talk of it i hope this cursed war will end sum time for i have got tiard of solgering i shal feel like a new man when i get fre a gain i think i shal try & ceep free Dear honey i wish that i was whare i cod eat won of your warm buiskits & sum sum cold cabage & beef but i have got a plate of rice puding i will make that do for to night we have a nuf to eat but it is two mutch of won thing Lieutenant Whelock has just returnd from the hospitle he looks very bad he had the diptheiar he has ben sick / for 2 weak 2 solgers died with the same complaint i hope the lieutenant will live throw it but he looks very bad now he is what you can col a very nice man good to his men he will do eny thing to pleas the boys i am a fraid if we stay hear this summer it will be very un helthy for the land is so low & swampy hear their is sum talk of moving back to new orleans in a few weaks but we cant escape sickness eny whare if it aint won thing it will be a nother i hope and pray that the company will return home saft to their friends before long solgering is very un plesant they hafto go trow evry hard ship that a man can go throw i have stod it better than i expected i shod i have slep on the ground & have ben wet throw & got up wet throw my helth is good as yet my apitite is very good i hope i shal have my helth while i am in the army. it is a very tuf place to be sick a private dont get mutch cair when he is sick Dear wife i cant think of eny more / at presant it is geting dark so i will hafto draw to a close you musant work sow two hard honey your Misuss Missus must give you easy work i will send you sum money as soon as i get my pay if i can send it throw saft it is a great wais to trust money in a letter & a bad time to send it you must ansure this letter & tel me when you resieved it so i can tel how long it takes a letter to go give my love to all of my inquiring friends give my love to James & Mag tel hur that i hope i shal be home to tip you & Mag over a gain in the bugy Direct your letters New Orleans Company B 160
