Dear wife i thot i wud drop you a few lines while i have time my helth is very good exsepting a bad cold we had a sudden change of wether & i took cold not so bad as to stop me from duty Dear Wife i hope that those few lines will find you ingoying good helth Dear Wife i sent you $30 dollars by Adams Express they didant pay me but 50 dolars & 25 cts i thot i wod ceep sum with me for i need sum i hafto pay hiar my washing dun & that cost sumthing & sum other little nochens i want wonce & a while probly it wil be 4 or 6 months befor we get eny more i paid won dollar to have that money exprest to you you must take good cair of it & not lend it for it is money hard earnt you must right & let me know just as soon as you get get it if you dont get it i have got a resiet to show for it i thot it wod / be be the saftis way to express it to you if it did cost a little more when they pay a gain i will try & send you more take good cair of it & i will try & make good use of it when i get home & i hope that wont be long Dear wife i cant think of mutch to right when you right send me all the news i wish you wod send me the rochester union wonce & a while i dont get eny news a tol hear it wod do me good to read a paper near home their is a few boys in our regmant sick Clarck Heth they dont think will live 2 in our regmant has gon to their long homes Give my love to all of my inquiring friends my love to you take good cair of your self & dres warm & not get sick icant think of eny more at presant to right i will make it up in the next letter right soon honey James is well from your ever loving husband Wm H Hibbard good by

Pickeld green tomatoes
sliced 6 large onions
throw a tecup of salt over them & let them lie over night drain them off in the morning then take 2 quarts of water & 1 of vinegar & boil them 15 minits after boiling put threw a sive let them drain take 4 quarts of vinegar 2 lbs of brown shugar 2½ white mustard seed tablespone ground allspice 2 of cloves cinnamon ginger & mustard tear from cyan pepper put in the tomatose & boil 15 min be carful they do not burn
 
cotage             puding
put togather until well mixt 3 tablespone melted butter 1 tecup of shugar 1 egg 1 pint of flour 2 teaspones cream of tarter 1 of soda mixed in the flour 1 cup of sweet milk flavord with wine sauce

2 cups of shugar 3 of flour 1 of cream 3 eggs ½ cup butter 3 eggs 1 teaspone of soda lemon 1 heaping teaspoon of cream of tarter
cookies 5 cups of flour 1 butter 3 shugar 3 eggs 4 spoons of cream 1 teaspone of [?] put the butter & shugar into the flour & then add the eggs and cream
[?]. 1 cup of shugar 2 cups of sour cream 3½ cups of flour 1 teaspoon of soda 2 cream of tarter 3 eggs
Ginger Bread
1 cup of buter not very ful 1 of shugar 1 molasses 2 eggs 1 cup of sweet milk 5 cups of flour 2 teaspones soda 2 of ginger
 
                                    Bread cake
3 cups lite do 3 cups of shugar 2 of butter 3 eggs 1 nutmage raisins if you chose 1 teaspone saleratus disolved in hot water beat the butter & shugar to a cream add the eggs & spice & then the do beat al  wel pore in the pans & let
