Dear Wife i will take time to right you a few lines to let you know that i am well at presant & hope you are engoying good health i have had a very bad cold & it ceteld on my lungs i am better now i did not go to the doctter i had as live go in battle all most as to go to the doctter for it is most shure deth to go to them if you go to them won doctter will give you won thing & the other doctter will give you sumthing els & ceep you sick all the time they dont cair for a solger eny more than i do for a cat i hope if ever i get fre i will meat sum of those nice men if i had the powr i wod sink a river be twean the north & south & set fire to it i am not sick of the war / but i am sick of the officers & the hed men that carry it on if thair wages was put down to 15 or 20 dolars a month their wod soon be peace i think what do you think honey i think if the world stands long a nough thair will be peac sum time but i dont know when sum times i had as live live as die & little [?] Dear honey have you got that money yet that i sent you i think it is a bout time i had an ansure from it honey dos Mrs Walker work for you yet & how dos she like it dos it seem natural to hur honey dont work two hard if you are to work for Mrs Walker i dont want you to do the washing for it is to hard to do the washing & ironing i now sumthing a bout the work their for i hav ben thair i hope i shal be home sum time & then i will hiar you i expect that we shal / have a frendly set two with the rebels befor long evry thing appears like it now if we have got to fight to make peace let us fight quicker the battel is fought the quicker we shal get home if we live throw it if we dont we shant want to cum home but i hope & pray that we shal all get home saft a gain that is living
their has ben 4 deths in our company Charles vandyne is very sick it is rather doutful with him the fever hear is very dangrous it wodant be so dangrous if they had good cair but they dont have the cair they wod to home i dont think this place was ever crated for a white man i think all it was made for is for what is in it that is aligators & turky buzards i shal be glad when i get out of the suthern states we are in the state of lousanna or louzy anna i rote Maria a letter you must / right to hur & encorage hur to move up to Palmyra how dos Anna like marrid life did you have a good time at the spree no more at presant right honey i have resieved all of your letters & papers right often honey give my love to all of my friends & keep a good shair for your self
