My one dear Wife
as i have just resieved a letter from Mother & ansured it i will take a little more time to rite to you to let you know that i am well at presant and hope those few lines will find you engoying good health it is a good while since i hird from you their was a big mail in last night but no letter from my honey most al of the boys got 1 or 2 letters i expected 2 or 3 but nery won never mind honey they will cum bimb by or i will cum after them dont you wish i wod cum after the letters i will be after won sum of those days 3 or 4 more good battles will settle this mater i hope we shal have a fite now soon the rebels ar geting redy to cum down on us they aint but 12 milds from us our doctters was orderd to send the sick down to new orleans to day we was orderd / up every morning at 3 oclock under armes & stay up until day light won night we was orderd out at 2 o clock we expected sumthing was up then let them cum the quicker we clear them out the quicker we will get home i hope their will be sumthing dun pirty soon for it offel hot hear solgering is a nice thing only it aint i wod like it better if it want so hot our calvry had a little fite with the rebel calvry our calvry tuck 5 prisners & 6 horses our men lost 4 horses they was shot honey what do you think a bout drafting now will you pay the bet when i get home i hope they will send sum of those fast young men down hear so they can se the cuntry it is a fine cuntry but i rather be north just now keep cool honey i will be their when i get their i havent had eny letter from Maria yet how did James feel a bout cuming back honey you nedant send me eny corn for their is no way for cracking it hear / if their was i codant get eny milk i rather you wod send me sum chewing tobackco the tobackco is so poor hear it aint fit to chew or smoke i bot 2 lbs of butter yesterday for won dolar & i bot 2 lbs of chees for 1 dolar i bot a pound of crackers for 20 cts a man wants a pocket ful of money al the time to by an extry meal if we have bread & butter & a peace of cheas we have got a extry meal we have got to by all of those things if we get them our camp food is good a nuf but i get tiard of won thing i havent eat a half a pound of poark since i left Auburn i dont like it since i came down hear or rice eather they dont eny thing tast good to me but coffa & bread & butter & that dont taste as good as it do north if ever i get home i will make up lost time i havent mutch news send you probly their will be news a nuf in a / few days i hope we will whip the bugars but we have got to try them first no more at presant so i will draw to a close by sending my love to all of my friends give my love to James & Mag my love to you rite soon as you get this good by send sum more stamps in your next
