I will write you A fiew lines to let you know that I have received youre kind and welcome letter and will say that I was glad to hear that you was well I am glad to hear that you received my letter for I have not had but one or two letters from home since I left there and what I do get it does me good to here from them I hope that you will write often and tell me all of the news I hope that you will not have as bad luck as we did at harpers Ferry I hope that you will take / good care of youreself and trust in god for he can do more for you than any one elce if you should get in a battle do not run but stand up and do youre duty for I know what it is to stand to the rack for I did not run and I have won a great many friends by doing so if you can get a chance to pop one of those rebels I want you to do it for me for they played a good trick on us and I want to pay them for it you must write me soon and tell me where you are and tell brother James to write to me and I will write to him soon / for I know how good it is to hear from friends when they are far away I you can I want you to take good care of each other and if one of you is sick do not send him to the hospital if you can get a privat hous for he will have better care and better bed you must be carefull and not eat too mutch fruit for the chang of climate and chang of food will go hard with you at first but you will soon get used to it if you are carefull of youreself I will now close good by for this time from your brother Lieut E.
