Dear Brother
I have received youre kind and most welcome letter and will say that I was verry glad to hear from you you said that you was at home now I hope that you will have a pleasant parting with youre many friends for it is pleasant to leave home with a good feeling and a clear mind I can say that this was the first time that I ever left home for so long a time and if I ever leave again I would / know what it was to leave so many dear friends I hope that you will think of youre home and friends and if you see one of those things that they call rebels that are trying to distroy our peas and comfort that you will take good ame and fetch him to the ground you can bet that if ever I get a site of one of them again I will let him know that they will never take me prisoner again I will die on the field before I will be taken you spoke of Wm Olevitt he was sent down to the city to get some stove pipe and has not come back again I guess that / he has gon to Palmyra after them if he has he will come back again and in a differant manner than he went away I think that I will come home in about 2 weeks if I can get away if I come I will come to auburn if you are there William you must remember the proms's you have made you must not think that I am saying to much for what I say I hope that you will think that it is all right for I would not tell you any thing that I did not think would do you good
if you go to the battle field I hope that you will get through and return home where we shall meet once more
I will now close with saying that you must give my best respects to all friends and my love to you and James and tell him that I will write to him tomorow if I live and nothing happens give my respects to Capt Underhill and tell him to remember what I told him at Shortsville when we went away that I would do my duty and I want him to do the same now I will close good by for this time god bless you and guid you in the right way from youre affectinate Brother
