Dear Sister
As I have just received the box you scent me I will say that I am very much oblidged to you and hope that I can do as mutch for you
but I was very sorry to find everything spoiled except the butter and tobaco. it was caused by those pickels which was put in the box they was very mouldy and made everything taste bad. I could not eat any thing but the butter and some of the fruit. pleas tell John and Mary that I thank them for their kindness
I will say that I am very well at present and hope that theas fiew lines will find you the same. I do not know how soon I will be at home but I hope soon
we are to have our pay tomorow and then I will go to Washington to stay a fiew dayes tell Mrs Heath that Harvey is better. he has left the hospital and is in my tent he is getting fleshey
I have written to William and James but have not had an answer yet and do not know why it is
I will now close for I have no news to write. give my best respects to all friends and my love for you pleas write soon from
