Hillsdale May the 21 1861
           
My Dear William and Delia it is with great pleasure that I sit down to wright a few lines to you hoping that they will find you all in good helth as this leaves me and family at preasent I let you know that I recieved your kind and welcome letter about 2 weeks ago and was glad to hear that you was all well I let you know that I have bin sick for about 6 weeks and I dont get annything better yet I have not done a days work this spring I would like to know if you aint a son of Bengiman Hibbard I thought that I would bee able to go down to Palmyra this fall but my helth is so poor that I dont now whether I shall bee able to go or not I would like to now the reason that James or Margret or anny of the rest of the folks does not wright to me I would like to now if you have heard from Anes or Maria latly when you wright to them tell them that my helth is very poor the wether is so cold and backward that I have not got no planting done yet I have got 8 acres of corn to plant yet and I expect to have it all planted this week thare is a regiment of 1 hundred that has left Hillsdale the 26 to go to the war. I cant think of anny more at present so I must draw to a close We all send our warmest love / to all of you expecting to hear from you soon
