James C. Ellis to Francis J. Parker, 6 November 1862
Plympton, Nov 6th 1862.

Col Parker Dear Sir I received an answer from you sometime sence in regard to what i wrote to you about my son Henry H. Ellis in Capt Bumpuses Company E. you sed the surgeon told you that he was on duty. i find that he had rather remain with his comrads then stay at the hospital, so the docter markes him for duty, but i think he has not done enney duty sence the armey has ben on the potomack. this i learn from from his commander as well as from him he sais the docter does not no ho he feals he is so weak that he can not walk but a little way at a time and the coarse armey food does not give him enny strenth. i think if he could bee sent home he could recrute his health so as to bee of some use to his country, as wee are all wanted to defend our country and citizenry.

I think that if he is compelled to stay ther he will not live long he will dye of consumption; if you can do enny thing for him wee would bee verrey greatfull to you, also for answering my other request. I am happy to hear so good a repourt of capt. Bumpus from you which / I beleave is true. i think ther has been fals reports about him before and i am sorrey that i said what i did. god forgive me for saying aught against enny person that is defending his Country

yours Respectfully James C. Ellis
