Camp Near Petersburg Va

Nov 15^th 1864

                       

Dear Parents

                  I will scratch a few lines on this sheet and leave the rest for Daniel to finish. He is now lying on the bed singing and says it is the tune of "what he is going to have for supper" which will most likely be hard tack and coffee I am well and hearty with the exception of a sick hand and that I think is gaining some for it has broke and does not pain me near as bad as it did when I last wrote you however it is pretty bad yet / and I wont get a furlough after all to bad isnt it ha ha. well I guess I will wait untill next fall and then take one for life, and now for something else. In your last you wrote me us to let you know if we wanted any stockings or anything of that sort. Well I do not but you may send me ten dollars of my money if you have it on hand yet and send it by mail directed the same as you have all my letters I will close for this time and leave the rest for Daniel

as Charley has ben wrighting I will try to scribble a few lines to you to let you now how I am a gitting along I am well at presant and hope these few lines will find you in the same pradictament in your last letter you rote if we wanted any thing that we must rite that is in the cloathing line I wish you would send me ten dollars I see that he has sent for som and you can send it with his I am dead broak now and I think in a few / days that I will send home for the rest of my bounty I guess that you will think it strang of me to rite home for money wen I did not send home anny of my pay I will tell you a bout it I lent Lieut Taylor sevanty five and then bout a watch so you will se that my money is gon some ware no more for this time
