Dear Sister
I am again permited to adress you a fiew short lines to inform you that I am well at present and I hope this may find you well We left Fort Snelling Minnesota two weeks ago last thursday and arived at Nashville last Saturday morning after a long and tedious trip I was at Johns the day before I left the Fort and they ware well I had a very pleasant time in St Anthony I was there nearly three weeks with John and Sister Clary I call Clary Sister for she has proved a sister true indead to me and I am proud of her as a sister She treated me with all the kindness that a sister could she is livly and full of fun I was perfectly at home all the time that I was there all the Ladies of St Anthony receaved all the boys of our Regment with the greatest kindness
In a fiew days we will be in the field again and face to face with the Enemy of our country and where the bullets fly thick and fast But we gladly goe forth to fight for the old flag of our country the emblem of a free people we goe with light hearts after seeing all of our friends again and after having such a good time with those that we hold most dear We goe with [?] that we leave many warm and true friends in our Northern homes but we must remember than many brave boys must fall many of my old comrads that are with us now have left their homes for the last time many of us will never live to greet Mother Sister or bother again but will find a grave in the South far from home and friends But the time has come when brothers must fight and sisters must pray at home Well I must close excuse this poor writing and when I git to our stoping place I will write you must write soon From your afectionate Brother George Rutherford
