Dear Friend
I now take my pen in hand at Georges request an write a few lines George was wounded on Sunday the 19th while we was marching at a near position We had just halted for a minute when he was struck by a bullet. he was wounded in the left arm near the shoulder the bone was broken clear off it will be a long while before he will be fit for service he is getting along nicely at present. I am now writing by him at the field hospital We are have considerable fighting going on here at present the Rebels have made a stand here at the Kinesaw Mountain a pretty strong position / But we will get them out of this pretty soon We have driven them out of some pretty heavy works Since we started from Ringgold night before last we lost one man killed and 6 men wounded in our Company and the Seargant major was killed all by one shell We have lost 29 men killed and wounded since we started from Ringgold the troops all feel well and expect to be in Atlanta one of these days We are now near the enemys works they are strongly entrenched and so are we they have shelled where we are a number of times but our batteries dry them up. I think they will have to leave pretty soon because I think we out numberd them Every thing is working well here Sherman is a pretty good General he is enough for Gen / Johnson We have taken a good many prisoners since we left Ringgold and considerable many pieces of artillery Well we are having some very hot weather here at present We have had a great deal of rain since we started on this campaign Well I will bring this to a close George send his love and best respects to you I hope George will be able to write to you in weeks I will close Excuse all imperfections of a hasty written letter
