Francis J. Parker to Anna L. Parker, 18 September 1862
Sept 18 1862

Yesterday was fought the great battle of Shaftsboro full in view of my position and an occasional shell over our heads showed that we were within reach, but we were not in the fight sunset having prevented our coming into it. Four generals are wounded & many officers and men killed. It was a wonderful fight and we expect a second dose today, but thus far 8.30 AM we lay still our forces occupying the most of the battle field

I asked Lieut Hooper who is on Gen Griffins Staff to send a message to be published in the paper saying that the 32d was not engaged. We expect to send the whole of the rebel force over the Potomac.

I am still well
With love to the Children
Affy Your Frank J Parker /

Please send word to D Dana that Lieut D. is not with the Regt and has not been since I joined and I cannot yet find where it he is.

Draper is discharged on acct of his health.
