Francis J. Parker to Anna L. Parker, 23 October 1862
Same old camp
Oct 23d 1862

My dear wife
The letter of yours which I ought to be answering is in my uniform coat—which is in my trunk which is in some out of the way place and for fear that before I could get it out something should stop my writing I will write at a venture.

Two court-martials—one reconnaissance and two inspections have bothered me lately, and finally I moved my tent today and of course received orders within 10 minutes to be prepared to "march at a moments notice" perhaps we shall—but as likely we may be here all winter.

The removal of my tent has given me a fine place and if they dont stampede us before / morning I have a prospect of sleeping warm for once.

Capt Moulton has resigned & gone home. Hoyt is getting better slowly in Sharpsburg. Mr Cobb shares my tent. The Major being at Washington, whither Dr Ainsworth has also gone, as also all the generals.

The wind has taken to blowing and we are whelmed in dust on the whole everything is sufficiently nasty.

I mean to dream tonight of No 80 and its people, even if I must awake to Court Martial & its stupidities.

I will try to write again tomorrow and answer your letter.

Affy Your husband
