James H. Jenkins Poem, undated
To the memory of John M. Ashland Co D 9th Tex. Infty
Who fell at the Battle of Murfreesboro Dec 31st 1862
                                    By Jenks

He's fallen, He's fallen he sleeps lowly now,
He's sleeping in peace neath the sod,
In the green shady dell where the tall cedars bow,
Where the foe and the vandal hath trod.

Twas a gloom-giving day when the [?] heroe fell,
The stout hearted wept ore his bier
He spoke not a word though much he would tell
To those to his heart then most dear.

Upright and honest this young soldier died,
The stout hearted
His God he adored to the end,
And the prayers of his comrade were silently said
For they all lost a heroe, a man and a friend.
