John McDowell Ashlin
John McDowell Ashlin was born around 1843 in Tennessee to John Ashlin and Margaret McDowell. His father was a farmer. He attended school in Hickory Withe, Tennessee, and Belmont, Tennessee, and by 1860, he was living in Titus County, Texas. He enlisted in the Confederate army on October 5, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company D of the 9th Texas Infantry on November 26. The regiment took part in the Battle of Shiloh, the Battle of Perryville, and the Battle of Stones River. He died at Stones River on December 31, 1862.
