Lydia Ursula Fletcher (maiden name: Davis) was born on September 30, 1841, in Chester, Vermont, to Daniel and Abigail Davis. Her father was a farmer who owned $1,200 of real estate and $635 of personal property. She grew up and attended school in Chester, and she married Carlos Coolidge Fletcher there on January 22, 1861. They had at least three children: Elmer, born around 1863; Leon, born around 1868; and Leslie, born around 1868.
The couple lived with her parents, and her husband worked as a farmer. Her parents died sometime after 1870, and they remained in the family house for the rest of their lives. Newspapers throughout the state recognized the couple’s 60th wedding anniversary in January 1921 and their 68th anniversary in January 1929. Her husband died on April 5, 1930, and she followed on March 23, 1932.
