Tryphena Abbott (maiden name: Estee) was born around 1820 in New York to Silas Estee and Mary Hodge. She eventually moved to Pennsylvania, and she married Thomas K. Abbott there around 1842. They had at least six children: Webster, born around 1843; Laura, born around 1844; Angelina, born around 1847; Margaret, born around 1849; George, born around 1851; and Grant, born around 1856. They lived in Freehold, Pennsylvania, and her husband worked as a farmer. In 1850, they owned $3,000 of real estate. A decade later, they owned $4,500 of real estate and $800 of personal property, and by 1870, their wealth had grown to $8,000 of real estate and $8,000 of personal property. Her husband died around 1873. She remained in Freehold, and by 1880, she was living in her son George’s household. She died on August 18, 1884.
