Arritta Munn (maiden name: Jernigan) was born on January 1, 1834, in Georgia to James and Nancy Jernigan. Her father was a farmer who owned $100 of real estate by 1850. The family moved to Dale County, Alabama, around 1840. She married John Munn around November 1850, and they had at least four children: Daniel, born around 1852; Catherine, born around 1854; John, born around 1859; and Neil, born around 1863. They lived in Dale County, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1860, they owned $1,000 of real estate and $400 of personal property.
Her husband served in the Confederate army, and he died on July 9, 1865. She remained in Dale County with her children, and she earned a living as a farmer. By 1870, she owned $1,200 of real estate and $700 of personal property. She was a Presbyterian, and according to a local writer, she “ever remained a consistent and valuable member of that church.” She applied for a Confederate widow’s pension in the 1890s. By 1900, she was living in her daughter Catherine’s household in Skipperville, Alabama. She died in Ozark, Alabama, on October 5, 1907.
