Aram Caryl
Aram Caryl was born around 1825 in Vermont to Calvin Caryl and Elizabeth Grover. His father was a shoemaker. He married Lois Barber in Mount Holly, Vermont, on December 30, 1852, and they had at least four children: Eda, born around 1853; Betsey, born around 1856; Harvey, born around 1858; and Calvin, born around 1862. Caryl worked as a shoemaker in Mount Holly, and by 1860, he owned $100 of personal property. He enlisted in the Union army on December 19, 1863, and mustered in as a private in the 1st Vermont Light Artillery on January 2. He died of “chronic diarrhea” on July 24, 1864, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
