Anne Eliza Shepard was born on March 19, 1818, in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, to John W. Shepard and Eliza Burns. Her father was a minister who owned $2,400 of real estate by 1850. The family lived in Nashua, New Hampshire, and her father died in 1860. She never married, and she remained at home with her mother and siblings. By 1870, the family owned $4,500 of real estate and $300 of personal property. Her mother died in 1876, and by 1880, she was living alone in Nashua. She died of dropsy in Hampton, New Hampshire, on August 10, 1886.
