Ann E. Houghton
Ann E. Houghton was born on February 19, 1845, in Sterling, Massachusetts, to Merrick and Sally Houghton. Her father was a chair maker who owned $800 of real estate in 1850. The family lived in Sterling until the 1860s, when they moved to Worcester, Massachusetts. By 1865, she was working as a teacher. Her mother died in the late 1860s. She remained in her father’s household until at least 1880. She married Charles H. Knapp in Manchester, New Hampshire, on February 3, 1897. They lived in Worcester, and her husband worked as a carpenter. Her husband died in 1923, and she passed away in 1933.
