Baton Rouge March 9th 1863
 
To All
Since I last wrote which was on the 5th we have traveled some Friday 8 O'cl PM. we went on board the boat St. Marys It rained like fun & we got petty well wet but it did not hurt me any we arrived at B.R. Saturday night but did not land till the next morning Co K was left to look after the bagage so we did not get into camp till late in the PM. The camp is some to miles from the City The land looks better & quite high I have seene Dr Sawyer he is quite well. All of our brigade are here We have orders to cook 7 days rations cooked & are to have 100 rounds of armunition to be ready / to march at 9 AM. tomorrow with out dout we are going to Port Hudson. I am feeling first rate. All are busy getting ready I have not had time to see Foster Merrian but have herd from him his regt left to day. We are not going to take any thing but our blankets & over coats. I hope I shall feel as well as I do now for a fortnight to come if I do I am affraid some one will get hurt. This may be the last time I shall write but there is one who doeth all things well & perhaps I never was better prepared than now I do not know what more to write it is so late since I wrote. You will probibly here from us soon. Remember me to Carrie & all who enquire. I must bid now bid you good by. May Gods blessing be with you With much love George
