Quincy A. Whitham
Quincy A. Whitham was born on January 10, 1846, in Indiana to James and Emily Whitham. His father was a farmer who owned $2,000 of real estate and $300 of personal property. He grew up and attended school in Shelby, Indiana. He enlisted in the Union army on August 21, 1862, and he mustered in as a private in Company K of the 12th Indiana Infantry later that day. The regiment took part in the siege of Vicksburg, the Chattanooga campaign, the Atlanta campaign, the March to the Sea, and the Carolinas campaign. He mustered out on June 8, 1865.
 
Whitham returned to Indiana after the war, and he married Julia A. Worrell on December 27, 1865. They had at least ten children: Francis, born around 1868; Anna, born around 1869; Edward, born around 1871; Emily, born around 1874; James, born around 1876 John, born around 1879; William, born around 1881; Melachia, born around 1884; Julia, born around 1887; and Theressa, born around 1889.
 
Whitham worked as a farmer, and by 1870, he owned $2,500 of real estate and $450 of personal property. They moved to Osage, Kansas, in the late 1870s, and then to Beaver, Kansas, in the late 1800s. He joined the Grand Army of the Republic. He died in Kansas on February 19, 1911.
