Catherine Henry (maiden name: Axe) was born on June 22, 1834, in Ohio to Jacob and Eliza Axe. Her father was a farmer who owned $3,000 of real estate and $600 of personal property. She grew up in Perry, Ohio, and she married John Henry on December 3, 1857. They had two children: Thomas, born on October 1, 1859; and John, born on August 29, 1862. They lived in Richland, Indiana, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1860, he owned $300 of personal property.
Her husband enlisted in the Union army in August 1862, and he died of chronic diarrhea on October 1, 1864. She applied for a federal pension the following month, and she received one at a rate of $8 per month soon afterward. She remained in Richland and raised her children on her own, and by 1870, she owned $500 of real estate and $100 of personal property.
She married William F. Sullivan on March 23, 1875, and their son Daniel was born around 1876. They lived in Washington, Indiana, and her husband worked as a farmer. Sullivan died in the late 1800s. She remained in Washington with her children, and by 1920, she was living in her son John’s household. She died of “heart exhaustion” in Washington on December 19, 1923.
