Dear brother itake my pen in hand to let you that iam well at present hop ing thes fieud lines ma find you all well i reseved youre leter the 17 and was glad to here from you the boys is all well we hav prety bad wether here it ranes evry day here the river is prety hi now tell mary w l ranstedter is all right in the guce tell daniel he must not go to balys too strong for he is to yung / to stand the ruls tell father iwish he wold right to me and let me now how he is ageting along this winter imust tell you ihav sene hard times this winter ithought isaw hard times at home but hard times is now hare to the army but ithink iwill get home before long our Curnal came back to the rigment the other day hesade pece wold be made in forty days if it is so we will get home against June iwold like to se mary and the childern ihope iwill be spard / to se all of you icold strike aglad hands with all my frends icold tell you sumthing about hard times of this world imust tell you the smalpocks bad in memphers iam afrad it will get in the rigment if it dus it will not leve many of us the way we are fixet
