Orlando Comstock Geer
Orlando Comstock Geer was born around 1840 in Ohio to Alexander and Cordelia Geer. His father was a carpenter. Geer grew up and attended school in Waynesfield, Ohio.

He enlisted in the Union army on August 19, 1861, and he mustered in as a corporal in Company A of the 14th Ohio Infantry later that year. The regiment took part in the siege of Corinth, the Battle of Perryville, the Battle of Chickamauga, the Battle of Missionary Ridge, the Atlanta campaign, the March to the Sea, and the Carolinas campaign. He was promoted to sergeant on May 21, 1865, and he mustered out on July 11, 1865.

Geer returned to his parents’ household in Maumee, Ohio, after the war, and he earned a living as a laborer. His father died in 1879, and he continued living with his mother until at least 1880. He applied for a federal pension in December 1892, and he secured one three years later. He apparently never married, and he died of “exhaustion” in Maumee on February 9, 1927.
