My Dearest Sister
                                    I take the liberty of riteing a few lines to you to inform you of my health which very good at present and hope that these few lines will find you the same Eliza I have rote six leters to home and to Matilda before this and I only recive one from Matilda and now I thought I would write to you and see if I could get answer from you I hope I will.
 
Eliza I sent a rose of the vine of the city of washington to Matilda last week and a likeness it was the likeness of our bradgeder gerenal the commander of our brackged. Eliza we are in the second second colun in the second brackged Eliza we are only abut about 6 miles from the enemey now we whent on picket gard day before yesterday there was 3 Company of us company G and company D and company E that our company we was gone 30 hours we whent on (?) we got in site of the enemey and there was one man shot in company D he got shot in the right leg that was all that got hurt I tell you Eliza we had a good time for we stole a pig and rost it and we had fresh new potata and green corn beside lots of good/peaches. we return back to our camp yesterday noon very tired and to day it is raining so we can rast. I expect to that to morrow morning we shall have to go again and I hope we shall for we can stele. I do not mean to stele any  thing that to do any harm but I mean to take fruits such as peaches and apples and so on for here we can not take any thing if we do we are punish for it. Eliza do you wont to know how they punish the soldiers here if you do I will tell you I will not tell you how I am punish because I have not been punish yet and I dont mean to be well now I will tell you how the others are punish well some of them are tide to a tree and some of them tide thir hands together and put a stick between thir legs and arms and they have to stay so 24 hours beside of that they tie a stick a cross thir mouth and some they tie a big Stick to thir legs and make them carey it all day. I tell you Eliza it is fun to see them some times at lest it is fun for me but not much for them that punish Eliza when you see Mrs or Mr gear give them my best respect give it also to all my friends. Eliza I would rite you more news but I been wateing all afternoon for from you and I have not recive any so I thought I begane late to rite and now it is dark so I must close so give my love to all but keep a share for yourself I remain you affectionate brother
