Frank Aubin was probably born in Canada around 1840 to Francois Aubin and Adelaide Poudret dit Lavigne. The family immigrated to New York around 1850. By the early 1860s, he was living in Glens Falls, New York, and working as a lawyer. He enlisted in the Union army in 1861 and mustered in as a private in Company E of the 22nd New York Infantry on June 6, 1861. According to his enlistment records, he was 5 feet, 8½ inches tall, with black hair and hazel eyes. He died on September 17, 1862, of injuries sustained in the Battle of South Mountain.
