Frederickburg V.A. June 16th 1862

as I have A good chance I will improve it in writen to you I recivd A letter from you yesterday morning I also recivd one from Matilda the same time I recivd yours I Mite not tell you that I was pleased in hearing from you once more I recivd Dear sister we left here the same day that I wrote to Matilda last and we whent 8 miles byond here we stad there untill the 29th of May then we turn Around and march back to catlin station. then we took the cars and whent to front royal we stad there one Night then we came back to hay market on the cars Again. we was on the cars 4 days and 3 Nights we was Agoing to chanal door valey but the bridges was burnt up so we did not go.
I saw John while we was at front royal I stad with him all Night with John and Julius and Number other boys that I was Acquinted with and you may depend on it we had A gay old time. John was well and he looked as tuff as A bear. his company was on Guard over 150 priseners and I/stad to the Gaurd house with them there was one of the boys that take that askd one of the prisener if he would ever fight us Again and he sad yes that if we should let him go he would fight us untill hell freze frose over then he would fight us on the ice—well I will Now tell you About the rest of our small marches. well we left hay market on the 6 day of this month and march to Warrenton city. Warrenton is A beautyfull place the regiment stad there two days but I stad there 5 days. I left the regiment on sunday morning and whent to New baltimore which was 4 Miles from there I whent with one of my friend which belong to the 24 regt his name is Columbus we left on sunday morning as I have sad before and the regt left sunday noon and came to catlin station and on monday morning we I and my friend came to Warrenton and we found ourself left all A lone Among the secesh people people. but there was not any troops. all the ladies and boys in the city would come out in the streets and askd us lots of question and they would tease us to stay with them but not go with the union Army Again. we did not know but we would be taken prisener but we could not/help it we was thare and we had to get A way the best way we could, but I made up my mind before I should be taken prisener I would shout my gun once and my revolver 5 times and then use my byonnett as long as I could.
when we got in the middle of the city there was A big house that stood on the left hand side of the road where there was A franch man that lif live there. he was independed rich. he as been in the Amarican just 4 years and he was A strong secesh to I tell you. he had 3 handsome Girls as I ever saw. we stad there 3 days and 2 nights and we had A good time to I tell you. the Girls keep teaseing us to stay with them and thir father told us if we would stay he would give us A sute of cityzen clothes and he sad he would give us $30,00 dollars A month and pay us with Gold and silver but nothing eles, and he asure us that we would not be taken found out ether, and we came pertty near staying, but we thought the thing over and I sad to my friend Clomubus dis go and find our regiment. well sad he dis go, so on the third day, we started to find our regiment Again. the Girls and thir Father and mother felt very sorry to have us leave them, and/I felt just as sorry as they did. for I like thir way tip tap. They use us as well as any body could be use. well we did not know where our regt. was only we was told that they had gone to catlin station but what road to take we did not know. but some way or rother we found the way. but After we got to catlin we could not find our regt. we was told that they had gone to Fredericksburg. so we started on this track and we over took the regiment yesterday at 10 oclock About 4 Miles from here and we Arrive here at twelve. we think of staying there this week and then march on Again. Matilda was inquiring About the wether well it is very warm it is warm enof to kill most any body. day before yesterday it was A very warm day, and our briadge march all day there was two mans in the 30th regt. that drop dead in the road while walking and what kill them it was nothing but the heat. as my paper is geting short I will have to close please write soon, give my best respect to Mr and Mrs hill and to all of your friends good by
