            Dear Daughters Liza & Mathilda
I mailed a letter to you about a week ago in which I did request you to send me a good pair of woolen mittens. I wish you would send me in addition some writing paper 2 Dozen of envelopes 2 10 cents postage stamps and 10 3 cents postage stamps. these things I cant get here therfore you would oblige me very much by forwarding them at the earliest opportunity possible by mail. Also a couple of lead pencils. I will enclose herein a five Dollar to purchase the above articles named the balance of which you can Keep.—I am in tolerable good health now and sincerely hope this will find you the same. As I said before I would rather be at home still I will not complain very hard now for we are here have plenty to eat as it is the place/is suitable enougf for a short stay. Anyhow soon we will have to leave. We have been here since we evacuated the city of Fredericksburg. The soldier life is a tedious life for an old man I could get along very well if it want for marching and mooving so often I hope this war will soon close that I may here long return if God will to my friends and pursue a more adapted course to my liking.—

I have not seen John since the last battle but I heard that he came of unhurt and well. If there is anything I have forgotten or neglected to mention let me know from your true and obligeant Father                            Francis Aubin

P.S. I wish you would send me a News paper from there.
If you should write to Eli Hurlbut my son in-law tell them that I am well but lonesome
