Benjamin Hibbard was born around 1806 in New York. He married Sarah Lobdell, and they had at least six children: William, born around 1832; James, born around 1834; John, born around 1836; Ezra, born on June 11, 1839; Margaret, born around 1844; and Charles, born around 1851. They lived in Friendship, New York, until around 1844, when they moved to Palmyra, New York.
He worked as a carpenter, and by 1860, he owned $2,000 of real estate and $2,500 of personal property. A decade later, he owned $3,500 of real estate and $800 of personal property. He died sometime after 1880.
