Dear Brother i take the opportunity to write a few lines to you to let you know that i received your letter and i was very glad to here from you and futher i will let you know that we are well at preasent and i hope these few lines will find you in the same blessing and further i will let you know that we was paid of to day and I sent twenty and valentine sent forty dolars we sent/
 
 it by express to the fremont Bank and i sent mine in in your and valentine sent his in fathers name and you can get at the Fremont Bank and futher me we are in Louisiania now twelve miles from Vicksburg on the banks of the Misesip river and they had an other skirmish last night at Vicksburg and one below at fort hudson and i gess the batte will come of before long but i gess it wont be much fighting done there/
 
they think the rebels will leave before we get ready to comence and i gess the war will soon come to a c close they are arming the nigers and i think that is the m worst thing that they could do do it is a disgrace to all the white men that is in the field now if we cant whip the south with out the nigers we would better quit and futher some of the boys is going from our regt for Oficers in a niger regt/and now is the time for the union w men they can all get an office you can tell them to come on all the union men at home them great union men that wont go without they get an ofice no more of this you can use my money if you need it this is all at preasen no more at but remain your Brother
