                                                                                                            Dear Mother
it is with pleasure that I imbrace this opertunity of writing to you I yet Stand up for the union and am well & injoying myself well and hope this will find you the Same for me not having any leters from you I have ben [?] inclined to think you had all joined the Coperheads. I received some writing paper and invelopes Evening before last from union I supose it was sent by you but I was some what disapointed in not geting a leter with them but I suppose there is no one to write for you but Ella but I wold like very much to have you write as often as convenient/
 
Neither have I had a leter from [?] for a long time it seems She is married, but I hav olny hurd it from Strangers I Shod think She might write once more
 
I had a leter from Ester not long Since From one of [?]’s Gurls [?] they are all well. [?] time I hurd from [?] they wer all well also. I have not much news to write there is not much going on now.
we Expect to be payed of to morrow the rest of the Brigade is payed [?]

I Supose you reseave your $50. from the town [?]
it is going on two years since I left home I hope before another year all shall be at home injoying the hard fought for Liberty & Union/

                        As I have not sent this yet I will drop a few more lines more mother I want you to make me something simular like to this or get some one to make one have it sewed good and eaven have it made of namurall Cloth like your litle work bag that you had before I came away
 
have it about 3-1/2 in width and about 10 inches long  10 or 12
 
& get a very small pear of scissors to put in it put in some linnen thread [?] of red white & blue coten Thread
 
Stitch it length ways whear I have drawn Lines and then draw the thread the loops spaces between where it is stitched and put in a few neadles
 
& then send it by male & I will be very much obliged and will pay you for your Trouble
 
line it with something handsome [?] cambric will do if you can get any
