Dear Mother
it being my birthday I will try and write you a few lines it has ben just one year since I was landed in Servis the time passes and very fast I hardley think we shall be here next year at this time at least I hope we shall not Even if we stay untill –65 the time will soon slip by.
that holdall reached me last evening it is a very neat one I wold not take anything for it them are a cunning little pair of scissors.
I also received your letter with them post stamps/
I received some from you in a letter just after I rote for them you said you sent some in a leter of Zeruah an I dont remember now of geting them although I might there is no news of any account
I got a letter from Lucy last evening. She and her family were all well. She said she had ben up at [?] this sumer She said she had a first rate time camped out two nights wonder how she wold like to camp out as long as I have. I feel just as much at home in a litle cloth tent as I wold in the best house ever was how does [?] get along wonder why she dont write
how is crops this year.
I believe [?] a new peace this year. I wold like to be at home to help you eat the new potatoes corn beans peas &c/
