            Dear Mother
I now seat my self to pen you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope those few lines will find you the same. I have not much to write and not much time to write it we have ben moveing the last eight days and are not through yet I dont expect to get this rote before we shall move nor neither do I know when I shall get a chance to send it but I will get it rote and then when an opertunity oferes it self I shall be on hand! we started from Culpeper the 11. we had some prety hard marching to get to Menasses and bull run before the Rebs did we just got there in time to save another bull run but I think we shall have a batle near here yet we marched [?] through bull run and Centersvill to Fairfax but we have advanced back to Centersvill last night. the rebs followed us clear to bull run and there they thought they wold stop I think they took the wiser plan they thought Centersvill/looked litle to stout for them (and 300 [?] prisoners the 13 our Cavelry took 4 peaces of artilery from them the 14 we took 11 guns and 3 or 4 hundred prisoners but they had olny a litle skirmishing)

I had a leter from Lucy the other day the 10th and I had one from Roscoe the same day but I have not had one from home for a long time or from Zeru but I suppose you have no one to write for you but Ella where is Zeru now.

Lucy sayed that Olney had gon to Portland

if he had ben with us on this Skedadle I think he wold wished him self at hom agan I tell you it used up the new soldiers dreadfully but us old ones did not mind it so much we have got tough although we had a hard [?]! have they hurd from Lewis and Lenfert yet I wish O.W. was with me we wold both feel mor at home although I feel very content & have never ben home sick one day

for all that I shall not be sorry when this thing is setled! I guess I must close. Tell Aarons folks that he is well and Smart I rote to rosaltha the other day how did Olney enjoy himself down home was he/in good Spirits. I made out to get this rote before moveing. I will now close
