                        May 31st/64
 
            Dear Mother
I once more imbrace the opertunity of pening a few lines to you to let you know that I am yet among the living and am well and hope those few lines may find you the same I wold write oftener if the maile wold olny go but it does not go out/once in a dogs age one of the mailes that we send & they burned they cold not send it
 
tell tell Aarons folks that he is well and cooking beef steak this morning also tell them he says he will write as soon as he gets time and chance to send a letter
 
I write in such a hury I don’t know as you can read it there is not much going on this morning yasterday there was quite a time but we wer not ingaged.
 
we have ben under fire every day since the 5th except 3 days and some of it has not ben boys play. I had a hole put through my coat sleave at the elbow of my right arm by a bullet the other day but that was just as good as a [?] as the jacket was not worth much when we started we had 35 men that carried guns in our co we have had 29 killed wounded and P—
 
[margins]        I have not seen Olney but once
 
army paper is small and I have got it about filled to the looks so I shall have to make to a close
