                                                                                                Ever Dear Mother
I seat my self to pen you a few lines This morning to let you know that I am well and all right and hope this may be successfull in finding you all in good health

There has bin some hard fighting done in this Corps yasterday and the day before but our Div has not bin inguaged we got the railroad and got a line formed without fireing a gun took them by supprise our folks made a faint on the right and the Jonies drew all their foarce from here and took them/

to orpose us up there the 5th A.C. sliped to the left and came in on the railroad and still holds it notwithstanding the repeated charges they have made to recapture it (I said that our Div had not bin inguaged one Brig was the 2nd) I am in the Sharpshooters now we have not done much as yet 24 of our boys [?] today and the first day we came out here 12 went down the railroad a mile where our pickets was there was rebbel cavelry down there but they were so far of that the pickets cold not reach them with their muskets our boys went down there went in to some houses  went up chamber and fired out of the windows they drove the cavelry back about 50 rods how the women took on that was in the houses I think I/shall like first rate in the S.S. one thing is in our favor we can not use our rifles after it comes dark. So they take us into camp as soon as it begins to turn dark while the infty have to shoot and Dig trenches do picket duty and all such work while we snoose Our boys have good works now and I think it will be a hard job for the Jonies to dislodge them now and besides we are getting reinforcements so I have confidence that we can hold the Rail Road there is but one more road to take then Petersburg is gon up as sure as big guns

We have good news from Geo—I think our army is doing a prety good thing all around/

I have not much more to write this time—we live better than we did with the regt we draw more rations

O, Mother can you tell me when Grandfather Titus and Grandmother was born there was some one inquireing of me the other day and I cold not tell them if I shold die
