Dear Sister I take this opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know that we are still right side up yet and able for our grub I received your letter dated November the 2 and was glad to hear that you were all well I have got right stout again but we have got a lot of duty to do our Regt does the picket duty here at this place we come on duty everey other day. we do not furnish all the pickets for it takes a lot of guards to go around the town they say that round the pickets lines it/ is eighteen miles round and the guards are in sight of each other all the way around I have not found out the reason that they fetch our Regt back to Nashville But i do not care for here we get light Bread and that goes better than hard Bread you spoke about the Rebles having got back in our rear but that is all a mystake their is small squads of them around that just watch and get a chance to tear up the railroad but their is know verey large force their does not seem to be verey mutch fighting going on at present but they say that fort Sumter is all battered down and they have orders to go ahead on charleston/
I wish i was at home to help to eat some of that apple Butter i think i could keep some of it from spoiling for i think that you will have enough to do you this year. I received the paper and Box of pills which you sent me We have had some verey cold wether down here since we come back to this place their has been ice an inch and a halfe thick and wood is verey scarce it selles it from 12 to 14 dol a cord down here and they give just so mutch to a man and it does not go verey far on these cold days we have drawed big tents again but we have got our dog tents we keep them for marching I do not know how long/ that we will stay here but some think that we will not stay long Nashville is quite a town and their is a lot of buisness done here and their is some verey large Buildings in it. I will tell you what we have to pay for things little bits of loaves of bread they charge ten cents and for nice apples five cents a piece and smaller ones three for a dime and Butter 50 cents a pound pies 25 cents apiece milk 5 cents a pint
Well i have just come in off of Battalion drill and I must bring my letter to a close for it is getting late and i have not mutch news for to write so nothing more but write soon and let me know how you all are getting along
